Thoughts while Flying

With one hand i hold the wrist of my other arm, my arms wrapped around my knees, tucked into my chest.  I've often heard people complain about long flights in economy class but I've never experienced it first hand.  The space is so tight that I cannot even stretch my legs straight, nor can I cross them.  The man next to me, Ivar A Rage, owner of Rage's cucumbers Port Alberni, must think I've got the smallest bladder in the world.  I did drink a big cup of coffee, and tea, and a litre of water.  I'm trying to stay hydrated.  Every time I have to get up to go to the bathroom Ivar has to get up too.  I tried to step around him the first time and ended up with my behind in his face.  Poor man is near 80 and recently lost his wife.  I think my cute 30 year old behind almost gave him a heart attack.  Now he stands up to let me pass.

Ivar and I started with the most genuine conversation I've had with a stranger in a long time.  He told me about his wife.  I told him about Anaya.  It's funny how everyone always asks if I have other children, as if that somehow lessens my loss.  I suppose because I have another child I'll never know what it is like to lose my only child.  However, I believe in my heart that the loss of one loved, one truly, deeply loved - is the same.  No matter how many children you have.

Recently I've been involved with a campaign to help Kara Wagner.  She's the woman in Sicamous who lost both of her baby boys and her husband in the same night to a devastating fire.  Now I know that her grief is deeper than mine, for several reasons.

1) It was completely unexpected and she had no time to prepare for the idea of death, nor come to terms with her beliefs about it.
2) The death of two children doubles the pain
3) She lost the father of her babies, her best friend, her life mate.
4) The way in which they died was by fire, a frightening end that must horrify her to even think about the pain they might have suffered.  I pray that she has the strength to deal with these thoughts.  If I could give her anything, I would give her strength to deal with these haunting thoughts.  Her children are safe now.  Her husband is alright.  Their souls are forever - she will unite with them again one day.  We are all made up of the beautiful energy of God, and to that we all return.

People sometimes look at me with pity and sorrow and say "I'm so sorry about Anaya."
I look them straight in the face and say "Don't be. I'm not.  I wouldn't trade her for anything."

They say "I meant I'm sorry about her death."

I say "I know.  I'm not sorry about her death either.  It was a good death.  Peaceful, painless, loved and cherished.  I could only pray the same for myself and everyone."

Then they say "But I'm sorry that she had to die."

Again I say "I'm not.  Her almighty soul decided to take on an incredible challenge.  She was an absolutely incredible being.  She taught me more about life than I have learned in any classroom, from any mentor, from any teacher.  She influenced thousands of lives, and through me, even more so.  I continue to work in the direction of the path that she showed to me.  In this way she goes on.  Her death is not an ending, and it is not something to be sorry about.  If she had not been dying her life would not have had such a strong impact.  It was in the ephemeralness of her life that the miracles were found."

This disease is something to be acted upon.  Children need not die if there is treatment available.  Research in the field of gene therapy has shown incredible promise.  It would be a damn shame if they found a cure before babies were even being tested.  Furthermore, she still exists.  I am both a spiritual person and a scientist.  "Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be transferred from one thing to another, from one place to another."  That is currently what we are taught in science class in high school through university.

Theoretical physicists and metaphysicists have been researching particles that seem to appear from nowhere, consisting of pure energy.  They haven't got a freaking clue as to where they come from - only that when they are observed, it changes.  The very act of observing these particles causes them to act differently.  This means that having a conscious observer is key to the relationship of the particles in the creation of matter.  That means that you, me, everyone, is helping to create this world we live in with our conscious observation of what we call reality.  Now I know that that sounds hard to follow - however there are some really good documentaries on the subject.  I strongly recommend "What the Bleep do we know" and the works of Nassim Haramein, a physicist from Hawaii that recently published a correction to Einsteins theory of relativity in regards to the shape of space in proximity of black holes.

I'm likely boring you now...suffice it to say that at the center of any true scientist there is an absolute stunning wonder of the miracle of life, at the miracle of existence itself.  That miracle is what we call God.  It's what I call God anyways.

The flight attendant just asked me to close my window.  I saw the beautiful dawn coming over the curvature of the earth.  I saw the first pink rays touch the clouds.  Up here, way way up here, I have no idea how high we are.  We just flew over the north pole.  When I look down through the clouds I saw darkness.  I think it was the ocean.  There were chunks of angular white.  Likely ice.  Not nearly as much ice as there should be in the freaking arctic.  I wonder if that is why they are making us keep the windows closed.  Psst : Don't tell the public, and don't let anyone see out the window! Ack! just kidding. I decided not to sleep.  Italy is 10 hours ahead of us in Vancouver.  I left at 8 pm.  I will arrive there at 6 pm.  If I sleep on the plane I won't be able to sleep at night.  Therefore I am forcing myself to stay awake.  It is now 3 am our time.  I wonder what time it is where I am!? Lol.  It's bright out.  It's morning.  I feel better with the window open.  oh well. Other people are trying to sleep, that's what I was told.

I wonder about Ginevra.  I wonder what stage she is at.  How bad is she?  I have no idea.  I know that she has a G tube.  I know that she is having apneas.  I know that she is cute as a button and that she is going to look GLORIOUS in the pink Canada shirt I brought for her :) I also got her parents a Moose keychain.  That's what people think of when they think of Canada.  Moose. I have no idea why our mascots for the Olympics were a bunch of Anime looking Japanese cartoon characters.  It should have been a Moose, a beaver and a big blob of Tarsand.

Did you know that the Tar Sands of northern Alberta are visible with the naked eye from space?  It is the single greatest man made natural disaster that ever was.  It is an open pit mine of carcinogenic substances that stretches as far as the eye can see.  In school (I'm an Environmental Scientist, by the way EVT) they told us the truth.  Remediation is NEVER 100% effective.  They have no freaking idea what to do with the hundreds of billions of barrels of contaminated water from the extraction process.  The tailings ponds cover thousands of acres and anything that touches them dies.  Remember the flock of geese that landed in the pond?  They all died.  It was a big media event.  You know what they were charged with?  The maximum penalty under Canadian law for Environmental degradation, the same amount that Exxon was charged after the Valdez disaster. One million dollars.  That's it.  And Exxon still hasn't paid.  Thousands of native people of northern Alberta are sick.  They called on their Elders for help - to make the oil companies stop polluting the river - and the tribes were bought off.  Here...shut up...have a few hundred million...buy some nice houses...get wasted, or travel the world.  Forget this place.  Forget the earth.  Forget your home.

We have got to reduce our dependence on oil.  I say this while flying in a jet across the melting arctic, travelling across the world to see a dying baby girl.  Believe me when I say that I see my own hypocrisy and I see the value in cheap energy like fossil fuel.  But it will kill us if we don't change soon.  We must change soon.

Okay.  My battery is on it's last legs.

Dico "Lo so.
Ack! solo scherzando.

Camara: Love in Action - Italy 1 - YouTube

Today I got into the office and started by checking my Facebook.

My first message was from a couple in Italy. Their daughter, Ginevra, has Krabbe Leukodystrophy. She is such a beautiful baby girl. They said that she was having trouble breathing and they asked me if I had any advice for them. They told me that their doctors have never seen a baby with Krabbe. I had already told them what I could from afar...so I asked if they wanted me to come there and help them. They said yes. I booked a flight immediately and decided I would worry about paying for it later. I'm hoping that my friends and other caring people will pitch in. The round trip is only $1100. We've already raised $350.

So now I'm sitting at the gate waiting for my plane. I've never left the continent before and I'm really excited.

I'm even more excited to hold baby Ginevra in my arms and give her the sweetest kiss. Krabbe Babies are like nothing else. Super soft angelic beauties.

"EB"ing a Mommy: Heaven's little drummer boy.

This is one of the reasons why I have started my blog. There are so many beautiful people in the world who need our love. I aim to help as many of them as I can -

Tripp Roth had a disease called EB. His poor little body would get blisters from the slightest touch. He had such a fighting spirit. He got his wings last week and is now "Heaven's little Drummer Boy"

If you think your life is hard you should read this post. You might just start LYL (Loving Your Life) a little more!

"EB"ing a Mommy: Heaven's little drummer boy.: My precious angel received his wings today. I have had many nightmares about having to write this post. He was exactly 2 years and 8 month...

Where I'm coming from

November 12, 2011 Camara and Anaya
Healing Anaya: The Rock in the Storm: I have discovered something about myself. It's an incredible strength. I find it is now a natural part of me...

Let go and let come

I am Camara.  My blog "Camara Loves (what love does)" is an inspiration that I was guided to today.  It is a place from which I aim to help people.  A place I will share the inspiring and motivational stories of others.  A place where we will laugh and cry together.  A place where our love will make a real difference.

You see, I have loved so deeply that I will never be the same.

I have been in the presence of Angels and I am forever changed.
